Terms of use
Updated September 6, 2026 · Version 2026-09-06
ScanForRescue is a pet identification project operated personally by Guy Desbiens in Ontario, Canada. It is not an incorporated company. PawID is the name used within the application.
A tool to help pets get home
ScanForRescue connects a physical QR tag to a pet profile. It is not a GPS tracker, emergency service, veterinary service or guarantee that a pet will be recovered. A scan does not automatically give us the finder’s precise location. Notifications depend on the available features, connectivity and the finder’s actions; do not rely on them as your only way to find a pet.
Your account and tags
Account holders must be at least 18 and authorized to care for the pet. Keep your login secure and your contact details accurate. Connect only a tag you own or are authorized to manage. You are responsible for having permission to upload photos and to share other people’s contact information. Do not post sensitive human information in a pet profile.
Public sharing and safe use
Read the sharing notice before connecting a tag. Anyone with its public URL can view published details. Do not scrape profiles, guess tag identifiers, claim someone else’s tag, send spam, harass people or attempt unauthorized access. Meet finders safely and contact local animal services or emergency services when appropriate.
Availability, changes and ending use
This is an early-stage service and interruptions or errors can occur. There is no promise of permanent or lifetime hosting. We may change features or suspend abusive use, with reasonable notice where practical. You may stop using the service and request account deletion. We will explain material changes to these terms; changes do not remove rights you already have under applicable law.
Costs and independent tag sellers
The current owner account and base QR profile do not require a subscription. Buying a physical tag from an independent seller is a separate transaction governed by that seller’s disclosed sales terms. That does not make the seller the operator of ScanForRescue. Any future paid service will have its price and terms disclosed before you agree to buy it.
Your legal rights
Nothing in these terms excludes rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable consumer and privacy protections. Ontario law and applicable Canadian federal law govern, subject to mandatory protections in your place of residence. These terms do not require mandatory arbitration or waive statutory complaint rights.
